A very special family photoshoot at Minnipi Parklands, capturing Shanon and her two sons before her breast cancer treatment starts next week – before she loses her hair and one or two of her breasts, the emotional roller coaster of the unknown. This photoshoot was a special gift organised by her friend all the way in South Australia… support and love across borders.
Shanon shared with me her story about how she first felt a lump in her breast. Although she went to see her GP as soon as she felt the lump, the conversations with her GP didn’t cause her to be concerned, and even though her GP gave her a referral to get an ultrasound to be sure, she didn’t feel any urgency to book it in. Months and months went by before she casually mentioned it to one of her nursing friends, who took one feel of the lump and urged her to book in her scan immediately. The news of her results was devastating. The thought that there could have been a difference if she acted on it earlier plays on her mind.
Thank you Shanon for openly sharing your story and prompting others to not only get their breasts checked but to act on it quickly. Too often we let our busy lives take priority over our health.
