Have you ever been to a Vietnamese Wedding in Brisbane? Here is a peak into Cathy and Duan’s Vietnamese wedding.

Early in the morning of their wedding day, Duan had to go through a series of challenges before he could enter Cathy’s family home. He had to eat raw bitter melon ( if you’ve ever tried it you could totally empathise with him), getting his leg hair waxed and having to guess correctly which lipstick mark was his wife-to-be’s. When he finally completed the challenges, gifts were exchanged from the grooms side to the bride’s side.

Once inside Cathy’s family home, Cathy was brought out by her mother and handed symbolically handed Cathy over to Duan. Cathy receives parting jewellery gift from her mother which becomes very emotional and she also receives a welcome to the family jewellery gift from her mother in law. This is followed by praying to the ancestors and a tea ceremony which involves offering tea to family members and drinking tea together.

Next, Duan brings Cathy to his family home for another tea ceremony on his side of the family. This is then followed by a big Vietnamese feast.

After the morning tea ceremony, both Duan and Cathy changed into their Western Wedding outfit and they had a Catholic Wedding Ceremony at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Brisbane.

We took Cathy and Duan’s bridal party to nearby Teneriffe for wedding portraits… as always, we had a blast with such a fun bridal party and we knew that the reception would be so much fun.

As usual, receptions at Landmark in Sunnybank is filled with eating and drinking all night long, with lots of Karaoke and dancing! So. Much. Fun!
