“We are very much overdue for some new family photos… we haven’t had any done since you last photographed us in 2021.”

When I read that message, I smiled. Because I remembered their last session so clearly. Back in 2021, the kids were tiny toddlers — wobbly steps, cheeky grins, little hands always reaching up for Mum and Dad.

And now? A whole new season of life.

As a Brisbane family photographer, one of the greatest privileges of my work is photographing families more than once. Seeing how much children grow. How personalities emerge. How families evolve. It’s not just about taking photos — it’s about documenting your story as it unfolds.

Why Updating Your Family Photos Matters

So many families tell me they feel “overdue” for new photos. Life gets busy. The years move quickly. School starts. Teeth fall out. Babies become big kids almost overnight.

The photos you took a few years ago are still beautiful — and always will be. But they represent a chapter that has already passed.

Every stage of your family’s journey deserves to be remembered.

When you invest in professional family photography, you’re not replacing old memories. You’re adding to your story. You’re capturing who your children are right now — their missing front teeth, their wild curls, their shy smiles, their loud laughter.

From Toddlers to Big Kids — Watching Families Grow

Photographing this beautiful family again reminded me why I do what I do. The toddlers I once had to make crazy faces and noises to get them to smile, are now confident, chatty little people with their own ideas of how they’d like to be captured.

Time doesn’t slow down. But photographs allow us to hold onto the feeling of each season.

Whether your babies are just learning to walk or already racing into their school years, updating your family photos means preserving this moment before it becomes the next memory.

Family Photography That Feels Natural and Relaxed

If it’s been a few years since your last session, you’re not alone. Many families wait until they feel “ready” — when life feels less chaotic, when the kids are older, when everything feels more settled.

But here’s the truth: this stage, exactly as it is, is worth remembering.

My approach to family photography is relaxed, natural and child-led. We embrace the movement, the cuddles, the laughter, and even the beautiful chaos. Because that’s real life. And one day, it’s these authentic moments you’ll treasure most.

Don’t Wait for the “Perfect” Time

There will always be another busy season ahead. Another milestone. Another year gone.

The perfect time to update your family photos is simply now.

If you’ve been thinking, “We’re overdue,” consider this your gentle sign. Let’s document who your family is today — in this chapter, in this season, in this beautiful in-between.

If you’re looking for a warm, experienced Brisbane family photographer to capture your growing family, I’d love to help you tell your story.
