We did a mini trip to Fitzroy Island for my birthday. We flew into Cairns and took a ferry over to Fitzroy Island. Unfortunately it was not the most ideal of weather, it was raining every day that we were there and we were only there for a long weekend. But we made the most of it.

We did a hike to the summit of the Island – we were lucky we weren’t caught in a storm as it started raining hard as we walked back to our accomodation from the hike. We visited the turtle centre which was perfect on a rainy day and it was such an interesting and informative tour.

Our room was right on the beach front so we had picnics on the beach just outside our room, so we could run back in if it started raining.

Twice we went to the beautiful and famous Nudey Beach. The first time we had about 15 mins of sunshine and the beach was absolutely stunning, and then it just poured down and we took cover under trees and made friends with some other couples who were also taking cover… it was fun. The second time we went it was overcast and cold, not really swimming weather so we just sat on the rocks and relaxed.

There isn’t much choice in dining at the Island – there were only 2 options, so it was a good thing we were only there for 3 nights. It was lovely though, to have drinks at an open bar overlooking the sea and it was so nice to get to see a beautiful sunset just before we had to leave.
