GETTING TO POSITANO & ACCOMODATION
We opted to start our Amalfi Coast week in Capri ( you can read the post here). It was very easy and beautiful travel from Capri to get to Positano via ferry. Once we got to the port in Positano, there were all these bag porters coming up to us asking for money to take our luggage to our accomodation. Being complete newbies in Positano, we thought it was strange that the porters would only take our bags and not allow us to travel with our bags, and we were uncomfortable with the thought of handing our luggage over. So we stood there for 15 minutes looking on google maps the route to our accomodation. Google maps is terrible to use in a place like Positano. We only found out later that Waze App was much better to navigate in a vertical city like Positano. Our accomodation it seemed on the map was very close, so we thought… no problem, we can carry our own luggage. Our accomodation was really not far away, just very high up. We made it up the first 100 steps with our luggage before 3 different people stopped us and encouraged us to use the luggage porters… as it was still another 700 steps to go. So we ended up going back to the port and paying the porters to take our luggage. We chose to stay at Villa Principe Giovanni. Seriously aaaamaaaazing views from our balcony… all those steps are totally worth waking up to these views each morning! Our breakfast was also included in our stay and it also had the best views. It’s all about the views!
We did A LOT of walking. Up and down steps. But loved it all. When you are at the main beach… you see the postcard pictures of Positano… and you just want to pinch yourself!
GETTING TO RAVELLO
From Positano, we hired a private car and driver to take us to Ravello. We could have taken the bus which is a lot cheaper, but we were so put off by the steps and carrying luggage that it just felt like a good idea to have someone pick us up right from our hotel doorstep. We also loved that we could stop and take photos and go for a walk around during our drive to Ravello. I particularly loved the chance to take a photo at the town Amalfi.
Kostas and I fell in love with Ravello… we loved it more than Positano. It was such a shame that we were only there for one night. We loved that it was less crowded, quaint, up in the mountains. But also, we had the most memorable ( and expensive) experience at Belmond Hotel Caruso . I couldn’t stop saying “WOW!” every corner I turned. I also read that they were renowned for making THE BEST belinis… and oh my goodness… they were amazing, but super expensive.
We also had the chance to visit Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo which both had amazing gardens.
